Machinery Safety Vienna – For Machinery Manufacturers
Under the European Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC or, from 20 January 2027, the Machinery Regulation (EU) 2023/1230, every manufacturer of a new machine is required to carry out a CE conformity assessment procedure. Among other things, this includes a risk assessment of the machine. Instructions for use and an EC declaration of conformity must also be drawn up and handed over to the customer together with the machine.
For machinery operators
Under Austria’s Employee Protection Act (ArbeitnehmerInnenschutzgesetz), a hazard analysis is always required whenever work equipment (such as machinery) or its conditions of use have been modified to a greater extent than intended by the original manufacturer.
In Germany, the Ordinance on Industrial Safety and Health (Betriebssicherheitsverordnung, BetrSichV) always requires a hazard assessment to be carried out, even for CE-marked work equipment.
For employers
Under the Employee Protection Act, employers are obliged to identify and assess the hazards to the safety and health of their employees. Where necessary, suitable experts must be consulted when identifying and assessing hazards and when defining measures.
