Documentation

4S reviews the technical documentation machinery must meet under Machinery Directive 2006/42/EC and the Machinery Regulation (EU) 2023/1230, which applies from 20 January 2027 – or prepares it for you from scratch.

What the Machinery Directive and Machinery Regulation require

Machines and partly completed machinery are subject to fixed documentation requirements: in every case a written, documented risk assessment, plus an instruction handbook (or assembly instructions in the case of partly completed machinery). 4S reviews your existing documentation against these and further requirements, including standards – or creates it from scratch.

Also for older and existing machines

Documentation obligations don’t end with first commissioning. Under Section 12(5) of Austria’s Employee Protection Act (ArbeitnehmerInnenschutzgesetz, ASchG):

“Where necessary, employees must be provided with suitable documents for information purposes. […] Operating instructions for work equipment, as well as package inserts, instructions for use and safety data sheets for hazardous substances, must in any case be made available to the employees concerned.”

Process

Technical documentation review process in three steps
  1. You provide me with your existing documentation – or the machine’s key details, if none exists yet.
  2. Review for completeness against the Machinery Directive or Machinery Regulation, relevant standards, or the ASchG – creating any missing parts if necessary.
  3. You receive the reviewed or newly created documentation, along with an overview of any open points.

Who this is for

For manufacturers who want their documentation created or reviewed externally before CE marking, and for operators who need to provide the required documents for older or existing machines.

Not sure which documentation you need for your machine, or what content it must cover? Get in touch with 4S – I’ll help you create your documentation in a compliant way.

Are you delivering machinery into German-speaking markets (Germany, Austria, Switzerland)? 4S can also act as your German-speaking point of contact on site and support the entire project from a safety-engineering perspective. Technical documents are prepared directly in German or English; a Spanish or Swedish version is translated on request.
